“For any of their faults, Circa Survive cannot be called inflexible. Their very existence as a band is owed in large part to spontaneity, and Juturna reflects that. Then there’s the fact that all of the members come from different backgrounds, which opens the doors for massive progression. “Everybody is pulling in different directions, and that collectively creates our sound,” Nick Beard explains. When you have so many influences to pull from, options are far less limited than they would be with five guys in their first band. Therefore it’s no surprise that Beard doesn’t try to hide his excitement. “We have the ‘new band’ excitement coupled with the fact that we’re able to do what we’re able to do,” he says, meaning that there’s less of a learning curve since all of the members can pull on previous experience to help the band grow.
Circa Survive is young, and it’s impossible to guess where the future will take them, or what path they’ll stake out on their own. What is clear is that there are five musicians stoked on a new project, and that can mean a lot.
