Music for lovers;

“Circa Survive’s particular strain of music is anything but accessible. Described by bassist Nick Beard as “atmospheric” or “spacey,” one wonders what that even means. Heck, “Luke Skywalker-inspired prog rock” seems as appropriate right now as anything else. But there might just be something to be said for music that’s not formulaic and comfortable. Circa Survive will undoubtedly be far too experimental and complex for some listeners, but for others they’ll be a refreshing break from the norm.

Part of Circa Survive’s innovation stems from the fact that the band members have a feeling that they have something special going on. Singer Anthony Green was part of Saosin, a band that is on the rise, playing with big names such as Taking Back Sunday, The Used and others. Yet when Green spent some time away from the band and began playing again with longtime friend Colin Frangicetto, Saosin’s popularity paled in comparison to the feeling he got when playing music with Frangicetto.

With such heavy risks taken and so much at stake, pressure is high for Circa Survive. Having a member (Green) who was a part of a nationally known band is difficult for any upstart group.

“There were a lot of people, obviously, expecting Saosin Part II,” Beard explains. “But [Circa Survive] obviously is not. I think that disappointed a lot of people, but turned on a lot of people.” Circa Survive is branching off from almost all expectations, ditching rules along the way.

Circa Survive is an alternative rock band (not emo, contrary to popular belief) that was created by former Saosin vocalist Anthony Green and his best friend Colin Frangicetto (formerly of This Day Forward). The story behind the formation of the band actually consists of a real-life decision of fairy-tale quality. It's amazing, it's captivating, and it further intensifies the emotion behind Circa Survive's music. It's rather long, but I highly recommend that you read it. You'll think differently about at least one aspect of your life afterwards.
